CM appeals to discourage polygamy

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Chief Minister Pema Khandu appealed one and all to discourage people from practicing 'polygamy' in the state.

Speaking at the Mrs. Arunachal-2016 pageant organised by Ngurang Learning Institute (NLI) at Dree Ground here, the Chief Minister said he personally does not encourage polygamy and wished to see the end of such practice in the state.

The issue of polygamy came in the backdrop of discussion on applicability of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in tribal state Arunachal with respect to women's right. This was highlighted in her earlier keynote address by noted women activist, Jarjum Ete.

It is worth mentioning here that majority of the contestants of the beauty pageant were sufferers of polygamy and domestic violence.

Pema observed that women in Arunachal normally hold respectable position in the society as compared to other societies from rest of the country. He, however, said this could depend on communities, where they follow different customs.

The Chief Minister assured to initiate dialogue with various women organisations to discuss on implementation of UCC in the state. Pema also promised that budget for the coming financial year will be 'women-friendly', which will be prepared in consultation with various women organisations.

The Chief Minister said the budget will also accommodate the interest of all tribal communities and community based organizations.

In her key-note address, Ete spoke on UCC, its implementation, women's inheritance rights in tribal society.

Earlier in his welcome address, patron of Mrs Arunachal-2016, Ngurang Pinch appealed people to encourage women's inheritance right.

A 5-minute video presentation on NLI and its founder, Ngurang Meena on her struggle as women activists were narrated. Meena is known for her role in fighting for women's right in traditional patriarchal society.

The event also saw pageant judges - Everester Anshu Janshempa, first DSP of state Techi Henyir and Adult Education activist Toko Mina being felicitated.

Rajya Sabha MP MC Mary Kom and North East's first woman Everester Tine Mena were also present on the occasion.

Wado-Kai Karate team brings laurels to the state

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: The state Wado-Kai Karate team under the banner of Arunachal Wado-Kai Karate-Do Association brought laurels to the state in the recently held 14th WKI International Karate Championship, held at the Khudiram Indoor Stadium, Kolkata from Nov 18 to 20 last.

In the senior category kumite; Gokia Mohonto (60 Kg) and Kambung Wangsa (55 Kg) won gold in men and women category respectively while, Yarda Tadap(50 Kg) secured silver medal.

In the junior boys' category kumite; Lingdum Tari(60 Kg), Tang Narba (50Kg) and Longme Dolo (55Kg) secured silver medals each, while Likha Oum (60 Kg) secured bronze medal. Also Bamang Nitu (50 Kg) had won gold medal in girls' cadet category, informed an Arunachal Wado-Kai Karate-Do Association release.

Minister Taga visits Niglok IGC, puts emphasis on quality works

RUKSIN, Nov 26: State's Industry Minister Tamiyo Taga along with Pasighat-West MLA Tatung Jamoh and industry department officials on Saturday visited Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) at Ngorlung-Niglok in East Siang district and took stock of its ongoing construction works.

The minister inspected the ongoing RCC boundary wall and renovation of water filter (in the IGC and urged the officials to maintain quality of work. He also discussed with the officials of industry department and project implementing agencies regarding ongoing projects for development of the industry.

State government through Department of Industries had sanctioned an amount of Rs 5.40 crore under SADA-2015-16 for the IGC.

The fund will be mainly utilized for construction works and anti-erosion project at nearby Sille river, which is posing threat to the IGC land.

Execution of the works has been assigned to Pasighat division of Water Resource Department (WRD). The government also sanctioned another Rs 5 crores for for development of Sainik School set up in the IGC and renovation of building, road construction and boundary wall and it is being implemented by Education department. Of course, the construction works are conducted by Pasighat division Public Works Department (PWD) on deposit payment basis.

Earlier too, fund amounting to Rs 2 Crores under Special Plan Allocation (SPA) was granted to the industry, which was utilized in construction of a part of RCC boundary wall around the industrial centre.

Presently, small scale industries - one bottling plant of mineral water and another tile making factory - are running in the IGC. But these two factories were unable to do businesses properly due to lack power supply and surface communication problem.

Most of the buildings and other infrastructures inside the industrial complex are still lying unutilized. The Central as well as the State Government have spent more than Rs.20 crore during the last two decades for development of the IGC, but it is yet to see light of the day.

The minister earlier addressed a meeting at Ruksin Mandal BJP office. He also visited Mikong village under Ruksin circle and later left for Pasighat to attend government programme.

Minister unhappy with PMGSY road progress

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: U.D., Town Planning, Housing, Law & Justice Minister Nabam Rebia has expressed displeasure over the slow progress of PMGSY road project from NEEPCO to Lekhi after the visiting the road construction site along with T.K Tagin, S.E, Rural Works Circle, Itanagar, E.E, RWD, Popum Poma, A.E, Karsingsa and contractor on Saturday. The minister directed the concerned department to complete the road construction within March 2017. The Minister also directed the contractor to rectify damages due to flood. S.E, RWC, Itanagar reassured to correct the deficiency in DPR. It was informed that 25 mtr span to be constructed on Hawa Nallah as per DPR, is to be made 50 mtr span according to site condition. Flood damaged 15 mtr span RCC bridge on Daabur Nallah also has to be reconstructed immediately, according to an official release.

DCM Mein inaugurates old-age home

NAMSAI, Nov 26: Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein has inaugurated the Chow Phamaling Namchoom Memorial Old Age Shelter Home at Kongmu Kham, Tengapani on Saturday. The Old Aged Shelter Home was dedicated in memory of Chow-fa Mau Late Chow Phamaling Namchoom (1934-1994) who was a renowned social worker and one of the pioneers of modern Tai Khampti society. The building was sponsored by the former MLA Namsai Nang Sati Mein.

The home was traditionally consecrated with chants of Maha Mangala Sutta (discourse of the Supreme Blessings), Karaniyametta Sutta (discourse on loving kindness) and Supubhanha Sutta by the monks and novice led by Head monk of Chongkham Monastery Venerable Pingyasiha Mahathero.

The 9 rooms' house located near the Golden Pagoda has the capacity to accommodate 20 persons with a prayer hall, a patient room, a kitchen and attached toilet bathrooms. The Old Aged Home which would be run on self-help basis will provide free food and health care facilities to the aged people. It would be supported by the family members of Late Chow Phamaling Namchoom.

In the inauguration programme, Chow Tewa Mein, MLA Chongkam, Zingnu Namchoom, MLA Namsai, R K Sharma, DC Namsai, HoDs, Public Leaders and family members of Late Chow Phamaling Namchoom also were present.

One of the most contentious socio-political issues confronting the people from North East India is the Armed Forces Special Powers Act or AFSPA.

It started as the Armed Forces (Assam and Manipur) Special Powers Act and was signed into law in September 1958. Later it was renamed the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA). It authorizes the central government and heads of states and Union Territories to declare the regions they govern to be “disturbed areas.” In these “disturbed areas”, the act gives armed forces extraordinary powers, including immunity from legal action, and the license to shoot to kill and arrest people without obtaining warrants. Security officers have legal immunity for their actions. There can be no prosecution, suit or any other legal proceeding against anyone acting under that law. Nor is the government’s judgment on why an area is found to be disturbed subject to judicial review.

AFSPA has been in force in Assam and Nagaland since 1958. Presently it is in force in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. In Arunachal Pradesh, only Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts plus a 20-km belt bordering Assam come under its purview. In Meghalaya AFSPA is confined to a 20-km area bordering Assam.

Punjab and Chandigarh was under the act from 1983 and was withdrawn in 1997. AFSPA was applied to Jammu and Kashmir in 1990 and is applicable till date.

In Arunachal Pradesh, AFSPA has been in force in the three districts of Tirap, Longding, Changlang and 20 km areas from the Assam Border since September 17, 1991. On 27 Mar 2015, AFSPA was extended by the Union Government to include 9 districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The extension to 9 districts was revoked after massive protests in the State.

Recently the applicability of AFSPA has been extended in all existing areas of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

However, on the flip side, recently the Tripura state government has decided to withdraw AFSPA, citing significant reduction in the extent of terrorist activities in the state.

On the other side, some of the most gruesome and violent anti-national acts have occurred in naxal infected areas of Chattishgarh, Odissa, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. The largest ever massacre of security forces was in Dantewada in Chhattisgarh, wherein on 6 April 2010, 76 CRPF jawans were massacred by Maoists. Despite the increasing violence and lawlessness in these states, successive central and state governments have not enforced AFSPA in these areas.

AFSPA has been enforced in Nagaland since 1958 (58 years) and Manipur since 1980 (36 years). AFSPA has been enforced in three districts of Arunachal and within 20 km border of Assam since 1991 (25 years). Terrorist activities, anti-national acts have not seen significant reductions even after implementation of AFSPA in these areas for prolonged durations. There are parallel governments run by many underground organizations, forcing people to pay additional taxes, with the governments being spectators.

If conditions could not be improved much after implementation of AFSPA for periods ranging from 25 years to almost 60 years than why expand the applicability of this act to other areas of North East India?

It is evident that almost all states of North East India are police states with presence of numerous security forces armed with extraordinary powers. The anti-national activities and violent incidents by Maoists in the states of Chhattisgarh, Odissa, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are similar to those occurring in North East India if not more. Then the moot question is Why APSPA is not implemented in these states? Why Army deployment has been avoided in these states?

Like Tripura could we dream of withdrawing the AFSPA from North East India and Arunachal Pradesh? Can we hope to live in a trouble free and peaceful Arunachal and North East?

APWWS, W/Siang seeks early posting of doctors at Aalo general hospital

AALO, Nov 26: The West Siang unit of Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society (APWWS) led by its president Marbom Riba Bagra and general secretary Hoksum Ori, on Saturday submitted a representation to the district administration seeking early posting of ENT, anesthesiologist and gynecologist at the general hospital, Aalo to cater to the health needs of the people.

The APWWS also sought medical equipments like X-ray machines, CT scan machine, operation equipments and ambulance with basic lifesavings facilities to avoid referring most of the cases to Pasighat general hospital. Claiming that the lack of these basic facilities is the reason for deaths within hospital, the Society further demanded early development of infrastructure, manpower and emergency medicines which are seldom available in the hospital. 3rd inter-collegiate youth festival of CAU ends

PASIGHAT, Nov 26: The 3rd Inter-Collegiate Youth Festival 2016 organized by Central Agricultural University, Imphal at College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat came to a colourful end today. All constituent colleges of the University have participated in the three-day mega cultural and literary events with vigour and enthusiasm. Altogether 18 events were organized. The College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat clinched the overall championship and College of Fisheries, CAU, Tripura bagged the runner-up trophy.

Attending the closing ceremony Lok Sabha MP, Ninong Ering, encouraged the students of the north-east to strive hard and set exemple for the rest of the country. He emphasized that education means attitude, action, language, behavior, and personality of the student.

Speaking on the occasion, East Siang SP Pranav Tayal, IPS, advised them to refrain from drugs abuse and alcoholism which has become a menace these days.

Dr. Pushpita Das, Dean, College of Home Science, Tura, Meghalaya expressed her joy over the colourful participation and healthy competition.

Dr. A.K. Pandey, Dean, College of Horticulture & Forestry, Pasighat, the man behind organizing the event within a week's time, said "every journey has its destination and whatever additional quality present in the student definitely it has to pay in their future."

MC Mary Kom meets CM Pema Khandu

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Rajya Sabha Member and boxer, MC Mary Kom called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his office here on Saturday.

Mary Kom is in Arunachal to attend the finale of Mrs. Arunachal-2016.

The Chief Minister along with patron of Mrs Arunachal-2016, Ngurang Pinch and organizer Ngurang Reena accorded warm welcome to Kom who was accompanied by husband Onler Kom.

The five-time world boxing champion expressed her delight on her second visit to Arunachal. "I am here because I love Arunachal. We are neighbours. We are brothers and sisters," she said.

Mary Kom's visit to Arunachal is also about sharing her life's struggle as a woman; on how she fought hard beating all odds to ultimately become the world boxing champion.

"Even my father didn't approve of my career in boxing during initial days," she said. "I never gave up on my struggle. I knew what men could do, women could also," she added.

Parl Secy stresses on the need to develop tourism sector

42 Hospitality Trainees Pass Out

ITANAGAR: Nov 26: Parliamentary Secretary, Power and Longding MLA, Thangwang Wangham on Saturday emphasized the need to develop the hospitality and tourism sectors of the state which can not only give employment but also bring income to the state. He said this while addressing at the Passing Out ceremony of 42 Hospitality Trainees at Don Bosco Youth Centre here.

Thangwang lamented the fact that a large number of trainees have to go outside the state as the state is unable to provide employment and is losing out on man power resources.

While congratulating the trainees for successfully completing the three months' residential Hospitality Training, he said "The skills you have learnt add value to your life. Therefore, learn skills and become valued persons". The Parliamentary Secretary expressed happiness over the successful training and more especially for the predominance of youngsters from his constituency in the training. Incidentally, thirty of the forty two trainees are from Longding District.

He also requested the trainees going out of the state to take special care of their safety and said, "Life in Arunachal is very simple for you. However, things are complicated in bigger cities and over simplicity also can lead to trouble. Therefore, be focused and determined in your life and work." Thangwang also advised the out-going trainees to learn from the mistakes of others.

Ronel Kumar, Executive Director, NHPC, appreciated the peaceful nature of Arunachalees and the beautiful state that it is but, regretted that Arunachal is not making use of all its full potential, especially its natural resources and called upon youth to come forward with hard work and determination to take the State forward.

Earlier, Fr. Mathai, Parish Priest, Catholic Church, Itanagar, threw light on the various skill-training activities of Don Bosco Youth Centre and lauded the Department of Skill Training and Employment Generation, the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs and NHPC for all the assistance they offer to DBYC in skilling young people.

Twenty eight of the forty two trainees will be placed at Le Pondi, Pondicherry, Poovar Island Resort, Trivandrum and Paloma Backwaters Resort, Allepy while the rest have opted for local placement.

Didum Kone villagers organize peace rally against eviction order

PASIGHAT, Nov 26: The people of Didum Kone village (lower Jarku, beside ALG) carried out a peace rally till DC office on Friday demanding alternative plot of land for residential purpose. The villagers have been served notice by the district administration to vacate the area.

In its memorandum submitted to the district administration, the villagers appealed to the district administration to either cancel the eviction order or arrange alternative residential plots for them as they have been living in that area since they were evicted out from the ALG when its construction started way back in 2013.

"We will be homeless after eviction and according to the Constitution of India, every citizen have the right to shelter," said president of Didum Kone village Rajesh Paron.

When contacted for the district administration's stance on the order and the possibility of alternative residential plot demand made by the villagers, Bani Lego, EAC, in-charge, DC East Siang clarified that it would not be allowed.

"It is not possible. We gave them enough time and also extended the eviction dates on their assurance to vacate the land voluntarily," he said adding that the land has been allotted to defense and air force since 2014.

"After going through their plea that some college students have exam shortly, we had extended the time till December 24 so that they vacate the land by 26th. But as they are adamant, we will go for eviction as scheduled on Nov 29," said a source from DA.

Meanwhile, Didum Kone villagers have threatened to launch a 12 hours East Siang district bandh in coordination with District Students' Union, Arunachal Civil Society and JN College students' Union if their demand is not fulfilled.

NAMSAI, Nov 26: Namsai district is all set to host the three days cultural extravaganza of Poi Pee Mau Tai 2111, the New Year of Tai community with the theme 'Say No to Drugs' from Nov 29 to Dec 1. The event will be organised by the Poi Pee Mau Celebration Committee under the aegis of Tai Khampti Development Society (TKDS) and in collaboration with the district administration.

The Poi Pee Mau festival is an annual event to showcase the Tai community traditional and rich cultural heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur. CM's Sub-Veteran and Veteran Badminton Tournament concludes

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Dilip Gurung and Boni Yapu won the men's and women's single (35 years) titles in the 3rd Chief Minister's Sub-Veteran and Veteran Badminton Tournament, which concluded here on Saturday.

Gurung beat Tomar Ango while Yapu beat Taw Yania in the finals played at Raj Bhawan Badminton Court here.

Men's (45 year) single title was won by Laa Ribe beating Karmo Riram.

Ribe also won the men's single title in 40 years category beating Mudo Ado.

In men's doubles (45 years), the pair of Jarsa Gamlin and Karmo Riram beat the duo of NL Togu and Techi Khilli to win the title.

Gamlin-Riram pair also won the men's double title in 40 years category beating the duo of Arup Borgohain and Joram Solo.

Tomar Ango and Taw Yania beat the pair of Dilip Gurung and Lina Kakki to win the mixed double title in 35 years category.

In women's double (35 years), Boni Yapu and Taw Yania beat the pair of Lika Moni Mein and Pema Ladon to become champions.

Men's double title in 35 years category was won by the pair of Saji Baby and Tomar Ango, who beat the duo of Dilip Gurung and Mudo Ado.

Minister for Home, RWD and Labour & Employment Kumar Waii, who attended the closing ceremony, said that the ruling state government headed by chief minister Pema Khandu has given high priority to sports sector.

Appreciating Arunachal Badminton Association (ASBA)'s endeavor to promote and popularize badminton across the state through organization of such tournaments and various other promotional activities, Waii suggested the budding players to play the sport in a professional manner and make career out of it.

Sports can earn one not only decent living but also bring name and fame, if pursued sincerely, the minister said, and urged the parents and guardians to encourage their children to take up sports.

Waii pairing with Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) Secretary Bamang Tago also played an exhibition match against Parliamentary Secretary (Sports and Youth Affairs) Nyamar Karbak and ASBA vice president Tame Phassang.

Earlier, ASBA Secretary Tago apprised the minister about lack of coach and infrastructure for badminton in the state.

Arunachal has no dearth of talents but lacks infrastructure, said Tago, and urged the state government to provide the minimum necessary coach and infrastructure for development of the sport. According to him, Waii has assured to take up the matter with the Chief Minister.

A total of 80 shuttlers from 10 districts participated in the tournament, Tago informed, adding that the 'demonetization' has adversely affected the players' participation in this year's tournament.

The prizes to the winners and runners up were distributed by Minister, Waii, parliamentary Secretary Karbak, Sports Authority of Arunachal vice chairman Gechi Doke, Director Sports Tadar Appa, ASBA vice president Tame Phassang and other invited guests.

NUFC lift 4th Veteran Cup 2016

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Two goals from Tage Tath helped Naharlagun United Football Club (NUFC) defeat Siang Highlanders Football Club in a keenly contested final match to win the 4th State Level Veteran Cup Football Tournament 2016 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun this afternoon.

Siang Highlanders started on an attacking note creating few scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes. The match, however, was evenly poised until Tage Tath scored receiving a cross from midfielder Kipa Takum in 15th minutes leaving Siang Highlander goalkeeper Kamjum Kabak totally helpless.

The NUFC found rhythm with Tage's brace and dominated most of the first half with higher ball possession.

The defending champion had almost equalized the score in the dying minutes of the first half (42nd min), when striker Franklin Taki's long distance shot flew over kissing the crossbar.

NUFC was leading Siang Highlanders 1-0 at halftime.

Tath netted his and team's second goal in 62nd minutes from a close range shot sealing the team's victory.

Tage Tath and Goto Gangak of Green UFC became highest scorers while NUFC's Mingu Bage was adjudged as best goalkeeper. The "Man of the Match" title was awarded to Techi Tadap of NUFC and the award for Fair Play Team was won by Lava FC.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jomde Kena, who attended the final match, hoped that the football tournament would provide an opportunity to the young players to learn football skills and techniques from the veterans.

The tournament was organised by E&K's in collaboration with Capital Complex Sporting Club under the aegis of Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA).

Awareness campaign on demonetization

NAMPONG, Nov 26: A two-day long awareness campaign on demonetization was conducted by the Directorate of Field Publicity, GoI, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Nampong unit at Nampong in Changlang district.

During the campaign, Field Publicity Officer, Nampong SK Deori informed that as per the direction of Reserve Bank of India, people should deposit their old notes up to the Dec 30, 2016 while, the date for deposits will be extended only at RBI up to March 31, 2017.

Deori has highlighted during the campaign that increasing of bank deposit will result in lower interest loan under the 'MUDRA' for poor,

women and dalit entrepreneurs. He advised to the gathering that the people who are willing to avail loan under MUDRA can easily get the loan with lower interest from the banks.

Bandh call declared illegal

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Itanagar Capital Complex in an order has declared the 12hrs bandh call proposed by the Arunachal Youth Organization(AYO) on Nov 28 as illegal. The DC has directed the said organization to refrain from enforcing the proposed bandh and call off it.

The District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police, Capital Complex have already deployed sector magistrates along with sufficient Police force at all the sectors of the Capital Complex including the market areas to ensure that the bandh is not enforced. All the market communities including the Petrol pumps have been directed to ensure that the shops/ petrol pumps remain open and run their business as usual. All the transport unions have also been directed to ensure that all commercials vehicles ply as usual. The Station Superintendent has been directed to ensure that their vehicles also ply as usual. ITBP sponsored tour for children

YUPIA, Nov 26: An educational excursion sponsored by the 31st Battalion of the Indo Tibetan Border Police was flagged-off today from its premises at Yupia.

Led by Assistant Commandant Kenli Riba, a total of thirty (30) local children are part of the four-day tour to Assam and will visit important landmarks in Tezpur, Kaziranga and Guwahati as part of the educational tour.

Flagging of the excursion, Commandant 31st Bn, PN Prasad in his address opined that the excursion will help children learn and explore the prominent places of its neighbouring state and also bond with each other.

Mass cleanliness drive in Tawang

TAWANG, Nov 26: A mass cleanliness drive was conducted throughout the district by the district administration which saw participation of people from all walks of life. Everyone including govt employees, students, monks, shopkeepers, residents participated in the drive.

Cleanliness drive conducted once every month is a regular affair in the district with an objective to create awareness and sensitize people on the need to have clean surroundings.

While the drives in the outpost are supported by GBs and PRI members, sector wise committees have been formed in Tawang Headquarter, which undertake the responsibility of leading the residents and ensuring the cleanliness of their respective areas. (DIPRO)

‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’ observed

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Women Studies and Research Centre, RGU in collaboration with Oju Welfare Association, Naharlagun observed the 'International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women' at Don Bosco College, Jollang on Friday last.

A total of five papers were presented by Assistant Professors, RGU, Dr. Tage Rupa Sora, Dr. Ruth Nengneilhing and Professional Assistant Maya Pulu along with Research Assistant Bengia Papi and Human Rights Consultant Ratan Utte.

The resource persons also spoke on women's rights and laws passed under IPC protecting them.

Training on improved production technology of pea

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Altogether 18 farmers, farm women attended a training programme on 'Improved Production Technology of Pea' at Kongra village under Hayuliang circle on Saturday organized by KrishiVigyan Kendra, Anjaw.

Chairing the programme, SMS agronomy Khoisnam Naveen (SMS, Agronomy) stressed upon major problems affecting pea production for higher yield such as nutrient management, weeds, major pests and diseases of pea.

Highlighting the importance of pulses crop in human diet as well as in cropping system for improving soil fertility, he suggested farmers to adopt more of pulses crop production in the district as area and production under pulses crop are quite low as compared to national average.

Later, demonstration on drudgery reduction through maize Sheller was shown to the participating farmers.

Farm manager Prasanta Mahanta also spoke on the benefits of nursery raising of vegetables crop.

State INC's frontal heads meet Rahul Gandhi

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: A delegation of state's Indian National Congress frontal heads led by Seva Dal Chief, Kipa Kaha, President Mahila Congress, Kamala Lingi, General Secretary Mahila Congress, Sang Dolma, President NSUI, Tanu Nima and APYC Vice President, Geli Ete called on Rahul Gandhi at his office recently to discuss in details the future course of action for strengthening INC in the state.

Field day organized on poultry farming

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: A total of 15 farmers and farm women took part in a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lower Dibang Valley district organized field day programme on poultry (Kuroiler - a dual purpose variety) under backyard poultry farming system at Balek village on Friday last.

It was organized considering the demand of the meat and its production potential in the district.

During the programme, SMS Animal Science, Dr. Dipankar Hazarika spoke about the management practices to be followed for maintaining dual purpose poultry breeds that require low input system with better output (more income through higher meat and egg production). He further said that this enterprise is highly suitable and preferable for rural resource poor tribal farmers.

Senior Scientist & KVK Head, Dr. TJ Ramesha also encouraged the farmers towards scientific management of high productive poultry breeds for economic upliftment of rural household.

SMS horticulture V K Pandey, SMS agronomy Monika Panggam and SMS Plant Protection, Toktel Boko provided technical inputs about scientific cultivation of maize and azolla as a feed source for livestock, preparation of bordeaux mixture for application in various crops and vegetable production technologies.

Technical literatures and 300 nos. of high yielding varieties of vegetable seedlings to were distributed to the farmers on the occasion.

DC inaugurates 'Skills to Succeed' Training prog

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Deepak Schinde inaugurated the 'Skills to Succeed' Training programme for the school drop-out and school going students of the district at AMYAA Training Hall, Roing. The first batch training programme was organized by the AMYAA, an NGO with support of QUEST Alliance, Bengaluru.

This skill development course is one of its first kind in the state where the target youth enrolled in the centre will go through three months 'blended' (mix of audio visual and facilitator led content for delivery of curriculum) foundational courses comprising of Communicative English, Life Skills, Career Development, Work Readiness and Customer Interaction Programme along with domain curriculum such as Entrepreneurship, Retail Management and Eco-Tourism.

In his address, Deputy Commissioner, Schinde said courses under the training are very essential to prepare oneself for the competitive world. He also interacted with the students and asked them to come out of the fear of failure and fear of being foolish before friends for committing mistakes while making efforts to improve. He appreciated the initiative of AMYAA for introducing the "Skills to Succeed" targeting mainly the unemployed youth of the state.

R K Paul Chawang, Secretary AMYAA made a PowerPoint presentation on activities report of AMYAA (2015-16) and introduced the concept of "Skills to Succeed". It was attended by the facilitators of AMYAA and 28 trainees of the centre.

Workshop on Buddhist Concept of Suffering and Liberation

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Seva Bharati Bomdila organized a workshop on "Buddhist Concept of Suffering and Liberation" at Multipurpose Sports Complex at Bomdila on Saturday.

Dr.Kamini Gogri, PHD in Philosophy from Mumbai delivered a speech on the key topic followed by question and answer session.

Another resource person of the programme was Tashi Tsering, Secretary Seva Bharati.

The programme was chaired by Lobsang Genchen, President, Seva Bharati and attended by students, local public leaders and lecturers from Govt. College Bomdila.

CYO opposed to 12 hours Capital bandh

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: The Capital Youth Organization (CYO) has opposed the 12 hours Capital bandh call proposed on Nov 28 by Arunachal Youth Organization.

Saying that it supports AYO for taking up the causes, it however said that it disagrees with the means of protest AYO is taking up.

Relief provided to fire victim

AALO, Nov 26: Relief materials were distributed by the Basar unit of Kargu Kardi Welfare Society to one Y Gadi whose house was completely gutted in a devastating fire which occurred at Tirbin in the night of Nov 23 last.
